| ABOUT....ROBOTIC
TEACHER
You have chosen
to review the portion of ConnectGov's CyberQuest Learning System
that allows students to self-test their mastery of course materials.
Each chapter test includes questions that vary broadly in their
level of difficulty. The format of the questions encourages success.
As students try to formulate an answer for a question, for example,
they can obtain assistance by requesting that the Robotic Teacher
give them a hint. If they select an incorrect answer, the Robotic
Teacher immediately tells them so, encourages them to try again,
and offers them the opportunity to get another hint. When students
return to a question following their having provided incorrect answers,
the program reorganizes the pattern of the possible answers in a
random fashion. After the correct answer is selected, students have
access to the step-by-step approach they should have taken to reach
the correct answer. When all questions for a chapter have been answered,
students immediately receive detailed feedback on how they performed.
The performance assessment is not based merely on something as simple
as the percentage of the questions students answered correctly with
their first choice of an answer. Partial credit is earned even if
arriving at the correct answer took two or more tries.
There are several
ways the Robotic Teacher can be used. The most obvious of these
allows students to move back and forth between the text materials
and the practice problems the Robotic Teacher provides. Once
students
have completed their review of a chapter of text materials, they
simply click on the Robotic Teacher icon and move immediately
to
a set of questions designed to evaluate their mastery of those
materials.
Importantly,
however, both students and teachers often wish to take advantage
of the Robotic Teacher program without having to move to it from
within chapters of text material. Teachers, for example, may want
to use one or more sets of Robotic Teacher questions as placement
tests when students are moving from one course to a more advanced
course (e.g., from Algebra I to Algebra II). Similarly, at the end
of a grading period students may wish to review multiple chapters
of practice problems as they prepare for tests and examinations.
Finally, students may wish to use the Robotic Teacher program as
they prepare for major standardized tests (e.g., the ACT or SAT
tests).
Here we have
provided you with the opportunity to review two sets of Robotic
Teacher practice problems. One is for a chapter entitled "Linear
Equations" from our Algebra II course. The other is for a chapter
entitled "Kinematics" from our A.P. Physics course. To access a
set of practice problems, simply click on the appropriate choice.
Before you do so, here are two features of this site you should
take into account.
- Our demo
materials include numerous flash animations. Using these materials
requires that you have installed Macromedia's Flash Player. If
you have not previously installed that program, it is available
free of charge when you visit Macromedia's web site. The URL is
http://www.macromedia.com.
- We designed
the site so that it could best be viewed by your using Internet
Explorer and a screen setting of 1024 x 768, but all materials
on the site should be viewable no matter what browser or screen
setting you are using.
- To exit
from the Robotic Teacher program, either close
the browser window or click on the "Close Window" button that appears
at the top right corner above the content.
