ABOUT
CONNECT GOV:
DISTANCE LEARNING
ConnectGov's
goal is simple. Tens of thousands of students have the ability,
the interest, and the need to develop a more sophisticated understanding
of math and science. Unfortunately,
the best efforts of teachers are too often undermined by large class
sizes and a host of other factors. The result is that teachers often
find it impossible to provide students with the individual attention
they need. ConnectGov's CyberQuest Learning System provides a cost-effective
solution for this problem. Importantly, and unlike many distance-learning
materials that intend to eliminate the need for enrollment in classroom
courses altogether, the CyberQuest Learning System supplements what
traditional courses provide.
There are two
interrelated elements in the CyberQuest Learning System. The first
is text material that emphasizes basic concepts and principles.
The content provides an in-depth review of the material college-bound
students must master if their success is to be assured. Complete
with numerous colorful diagrams, illustrations, and animated graphics,
the format of the presentation is visually appealing.
The second part
of the CyberQuest Learning System is the Robotic Teacher. This interactive
and animated program presents students with a variety of practice
problems that vary broadly in their difficulty. Students have access
to multiple hints designed to help them solve each problem. There
also is a complete "show solution" component that illustrates each
step students should have taken to reach the correct answer. When
a set of questions has been completed, students receive immediate
feedback. You also will see that the text materials and the Robotic
Teacher are interconnected. Thus, as students progress through a
chapter of the text, they can "click on" the Robotic Teacher icon
which is at the bottom of each page and move directly to the self-testing
questions that are relevant to that chapter. If appropriate, the
Robotic Teacher encourages students to review the text materials
and take the test again before they move on to a new chapter.
Finally, the
CyberQuest Learning System is administered through a highly sophisticated Learning Management System. This system allows student participation
to be closely monitored as well as customized reports to be prepared
for classroom teachers. An optional component of the system which
can save teachers countless hours of valuable time gives them the
ability to administer test and quizzes within the Robotic Teacher
format. The results are scored and recorded instantaneously.
